What a year it has been for our fundraising efforts for our adopted Charity the Beatson Cancer Charity. This is our 3rd year raising money for the charity, well for the first year and part of last year it was Friends of the Beatson, but you know what I mean. Year one we managed to raise £2,661.00 and topped that up with a total of £2,300.35 last year. This year we decided to set the target at last years total, bar the 35p, before someone highlights it. Lol
For some reason, unknown to mankind I never got round to finishing or publishing my blog post on the Graeme Obree Sportive. Just a quick summary of that event coming up. The route had been changed and was a much harder route, given the highest difficulty rating on the British Cycling website. Not only was it a 5 out of 5 for difficulty, it was decided that they’d thrown in galeforce winds and torrential rain into the mix to challenge us that wee bit further, or break us! Stevie Potter, Gilly, Stevie Haining and myself were the representatives of the Warriors on that day and all earned a pint or two after completing the grueling course in those horrible conditions. Now rumour has it that Gilly got a puncture and I shot past and left him, holding on for the remaining 60+ odd miles to take a solo victory. Now that rumour is correct! Lol
The final sponsored event for the Warriors took place the first weekend in Sept where Stevie Potter, Shaun and myself took part in the annual Pedal for Scotland, Glasgow to Edinburgh 110 mile Sportive. Once again we were lucky with the weather, even seeing that big yellow ball in the sky that I believe is called the sun!
So that was our three main events that we used to fundraise for the Beatson Cancer Charity. We also decided this year to update our team kit and have partnered up with The Cycle Jersey who’ve designed our new kit and hopefully we’ll be proudly wearing it at the start of next year. We opted for something a little different this year and have gone with black and yellow, the Beatson Cancer Charity colours. To add to our fundraising total we sold space on our kit from Sponsors, all money donated from the sponsors went to the Beatson Cancer Charity. Big Bobble Hats, Spice and IWS all came back on board and donated to our cause while we welcomed Isle Bay, Gadget Doctor Scotland and BSL on board for the first time.
So you’ve been patient and read this post all the way to this point, or maybe you’ve just skimmed it but what you all really want to know is how much we have raised in total this year, don’t you? Well we have hit the £4k mark! At the time of writing, our Just Giving Page shows £3,900 but we have been pledge £100 which is still to come in and the page will be updated to reflect this once received.
A huge thank you to all the team for their hard work this year and amazing fundraising efforts which have made it possible to reach such a fantastic total! That’s us now raised just under £9k for the Beatson Cancer Charity in the last 3 years!
I would also like to personally thank each and everyone of you who made a donation, it was very much appreciated by us and the Charity.
Roll on next year where we’ll be out raising even more money and having fun along the way.
