Hit & Run in Eaglesham

Sadly yesterday at around 4pm a 36 year old cyclist was the victim of a hit and run incident on the Eaglesham Moors, a road we frequently cycle on.

Myself and the Whitelee Warriors would like to wish the cyclist involved a speedy recovery and urge anyone who has any information to contact the police.

Every day when out on the bike we come across acts of careless and reckless driving, all to save a couple of seconds, while putting the lives of others in danger!

Extract from the STV News website:

A cyclist is seriously injured in hospital after a hit-and-run driver careered into him from behind.

The 36-year-old man was taken to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, after being thrown off the road and on to a verge in Eaglesham, East Renfrewshire, on Monday.

Passers-by stopped to help the injured man on Moors Road at around 4pm and he was taken to hospital, where medical staff describe his condition as serious but stable.

Police have now launched an investigation to track down the driver who fled the scene.

A statement from the force said: “Police Scotland is appealing for information following a hit and run incident on Monday.

“Around 4pm, a 36-year-old man was cycling west through Eaglesham on to Moors Road when a vehicle struck him from behind. The impact threw the man from his bike onto a grass verge.

“The driver of the vehicle failed to stop, however, it’s believed the car may have been silver in colour.

“Enquiries are underway to trace the driver and the car and officers from Greater Glasgow’s Road Policing Unit are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them on 101.”

Please remember that the road is there for everyone to share! Most cyclists are also car drivers and are mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, grannys, grandpas just like those people driving motorised vehicles.
