After a great four days in Belfast drowning my body in alcohol it’s time to get the head down and get back into training for the next sponsored event on the Whitelee Warriors calendar, the Tour of the Shire 101 mile Sportive.
With the highest village in Scotland and the highest golf course in the UK come and ride iconic climbs in the Tour of The Shire. With three courses suited to ability offering a unique sporting challenge in the central belt of Scotland.
Unrivalled Scenery as you crest the 11km Mennock pass passing through Scotland’s highest villages of Wanlockhead and Leadhills you will see the splendor of South Lanarkshire’s hilly terrain.
Our marshalled and fully supported routing offers a fantastic challenge with unrivalled scenery on what will be new roads to most. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or a newcomer looking for your first sportive, this event will have something for you.
Sounds like an easy stroll in the park…… aye right! This is going to be one tough event, 101 miles with 6128 feet of climbing! Not to mention the weather forecast which looks set to be wet and windy, hardly a surprise there then eh!?
As I type we have four members who’ve signed up for the event,
- Me (Stu)
- Stevie Haining
- Stevie Potter
- Robbie Renfrew
Although the four of us are signed up for the event Robbie is a maybe as he flies back the day before and haven’t heard from Stevie Potter, who through illness and change of job has only been out on the bike a couple of times since the Etape Caledonia back in May, so he maybe a non runner.
Saying that, my four days drink fuelled trip to Belfast was hardly the best preparation for this event but hopefully my base level of fitness and a getting stuck into it the miles week will see me through. Time will tell, Lol.
Still looking for donations so if you have any loose change, no matter how small, please send it our way. All money raised goes to our adopted charity, the Beatson Cancer Charity.
