Well that’s 10 of us signed up for our first ever Sportive in April 2012, myself, Ally Russell, Ricky Stewart, Scott Lightbody, Andy Bennet, Douglas Gilligan, Chris Hunter, David Mullin, Alan McKee and Stephen Haining. We have opted to break ourselves in gentle by doing the 65 mile route instead of the 100 mile route. Looking to do the 100 mile Pedal for Scotland Glasgow to Edinburgh cycle in September 2012. Most oif the team have never cycled anywhere near 65 miles in a day! I have cycled from East Kilbride to Loch Lomond and and back a few years a go, a total of 70 miles but a relatively flat route. Starting at Balloch Castle on the shores of Loch Lomond both rides immediately head north east with some long testing climbs towards Aberfoyle; and continuing up to Loch Katrine. At this point the shorter Challenge route splits off west and tours around Loch Katrine before heading back via Stronachlacher; passing Loch Chon and Loch Ard. It then turns towards Balloch Castle and the finish. The route contains a number of challenging hills:
Ouch that looks a toughie!
We have decided to raise money for charity at the same time and look at raising money for a local charity and “Friends of the Beatson” is our chosen charity. Friends of the Beatson makes the lives of cancer patients better. They do this by providing practical comfort and support for patients at The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. They work with the patients themselves and with the Beatson staff, medical, nursing and administrative – to ensure that they deliver the support in the best possible way for patients.
Please help make a difference to those suffering from Cancer by going to our Just Giving page and make a donation. Any amount no matter how small makes a difference to please make a donation, even if it’s only £1.00! Everyone of us are affected by Cancer one way or another at some point in our lives.
